Shashi Tharoor, born on 9 March 1956 is an Indian diplomat and writer who has been known mostly for his having worked as an Indian diplomat at the United Nations. In 2006, he was the official candidate of India for the office of United Nations Secretary-General, and came second out of seven official candidates in the race. Tharoor served as the UN Under-Secretary General for Communications and Public Information between June 2002 and February 2007, during the term of Secretary-General Kofi Annan. He is an author, journalist, and fellow of the USC Center on Public Diplomacy.
Tharoor was recently declared as the Indian National Congress candidate of the Trivandrum constituency in Kerala for the General Elections in 2009.
Why should you support him?
Silly Allegations against Shashi Tharoor
What can you do to support him?
You can blog about Shashi Tharoor and tell people the best reasons to vote for him. You can compare him with other candidates in the constituency. Put up support badges in your blog. Share information about Tharoor on social media websites.

Educated and qualified persons who can take our country to the fore have to come foreward. We have to welcome them. We have to welcome good people to politics. We have to encourage them. Politics is not meant for scoundrels only.In the previous Kerala has welcomed K.R.Narayanan who was a diplomat and his wife is from Burma. . He was not a politician.Later he became the President of India. Dr. Manmohan Singh is also not a born politician. He also has proved his credentials.
Placing one’s hand in his heart is not an insult, but shows his respect to the country. Don’t bother which country’s system it is. Also no need to worry about an address in Kerala.
People suffering from jaundice will see everything in yellow color.
I would definitely agree that he belongs to a really rare breed of politicians who are well educated and competent. We need more such people to come in to National Politics and change the landscape, and make the career in Politics a reasonable option to consider for Indians.
I am also glad that we have more people like Shashi, educated & competent fighting this year’s election. Check out –

Why can he not serve thiruvananthapuram without a government post ? Let us see if he continues to stay and what work he does when he loses this election !! Tharoor became a resident of Dubai (instead of India) with his company Afras Ventures registered in dubai to do business in india to evade taxes. So why should we taxpayers foot his cushy retirement in India as MP or even minister ?
Being a proud Indian and Malyalee ??? Then why berates Indian culture and ape Americans ?? Ofcourse – he walks his talk…lived in America / Europe almost all his life….worked for americans in a job at UN for last 30 years….dumped his Indian wife for an American……
and now he says he is joing Indian politics to clean us Indians up and teach us the American way of doing things….he says he will do service to people of Trivandrum by explaing their problems in English in Parliment…yes !!! maybe his british accent will help !!
Guys !!! Read between the lines – in 2001 the UN job paid for his Manhattan aptmt…now aging and close to retirement, he needs a cushy political job to keep his Coke company PR and free travel and housing perks so that he can holiday with his American wife and run his business in Dubai…..
Great !!! Rule to remember -all you need is to be a smart looking glib talker to fool even smart people. Also it helps if you have strong family american/eruopean connections (like wife / daughter / Girl Frd etc) as do our dear PM ; PM (behind the scene) & not PM by choise.
